Portrait
Tips
Clothing choice is a very important part of creating a beautiful
portrait. Select clothing that is comfortable and reflects
the subjects personality. Consider how you will display
your finished portrait, such as your homes décor and/or
custom framing. Also feel free to look at backgrounds offered
before your session.
Newborns Keep
it simple, photographed in just a diaper or onesie is all
we need. Have a favorite blanket, bring it along to. Be aware
of constricting clothing that may leave marks or indents in
skin.
Babies - Choose your
favorite outfit, but keep it comfortable around the waist
so it doesnt squeeze when they try to sit. Sweaters,
jackets and overalls should be saved for when they start to
stand. These tend to bunch around the neck.
Toddlers Your
favorite outfit will work here to. Toddlers are independent
and on the go, making this session a little more difficult.
Dont be afraid to bring along a favorite toy or special
prop.
Children - Colors
and textures that reflect the season and bare little feet
are always a good choice. Avoid logos, stripes and busy patterns.
When there is more than one subject, coordinate them from
head to toe.
Family - Group portraits
need to be carefully selected. Choosing solid colors from
the same color family will help convey the sense of unity.
If each subject wears a different color, than it is like having
individual pictures. The same with patterns, they tend to
be distracting and stand out against solids. Dont forget
the bottoms; these should be the same on everyone. Examples;
White tops and khaki bottoms. Black tops and denim bottoms.
Black on black. Shades of brown and khaki bottoms. Bare feet
always a good idea.
